Canadian pleads guilty to cloud hack compromising 165 firms

A Canadian man, Connor Riley Moucka, pleaded guilty to a major cloud hacking extortion case where he and others compromised at least 165 companies using stolen login credentials. Between February and October 2024, they stole billions of records including financial data and threatened to publish it unless victims paid ransom. The group is reported to have received over $2.5 million in ransom, while Moucka himself garnered around $495,000. The sentencing for Moucka is scheduled for October 27, with potential sentences of up to 30 years.
