The Fall of Scattered Spider? Teen Member Surrenders Amid Group's Shutdown Claims
A member of the cybercrime group Scattered Spider turned himself in at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center in Las Vegas, marking another enforcement win after the group’s shutdown claims.
The suspect, identified as a teenage male by the FBI’s Las Vegas Cyber Task Force, has been booked on multiple charges, including three counts of obtaining and using another person’s personally identifiable information to harm or impersonate, one count of extortion, one count of conspiracy to commit extortion, and one count of unlawful acts regarding computers; it is unclear which attacks these refer to.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office is seeking to transfer the juvenile to the criminal division so he could face the charges as an adult. Meanwhile, two other suspected members—Thalha Jubair, 19, and Owen Flowers, 18, both arrested in the UK—were charged last Tuesday in connection with the Transport for London hack.
The group, which has long attracted attention for its social‑engineering campaigns and high‑profile breaches, announced it was shutting down its operations, though researchers remain wary of ongoing activity.
