As the cybersecurity shortage becomes more evident, programs that aim to provide veterans with the technical skills needed to succeed in the field may be the solution, argues Dark Reading’s Kristina Beek in a piece dated 14 July 2025. The article highlights five specialised programs at MyComputerCareer designed for veterans, which can be completed in six to ten months and lead to up to 14 certifications from vendors such as Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, CompTIA, and the EC‑Council.
In particular, the Cyber Warrior Program trains for roles including security operations centre analyst and network operations centre analyst, with an associate degree option available for those who want to go further. For many veteran graduates, the programme helps bridge the gap between military training and civilian cybersecurity demands, with grants of hands-on, reality‑matched skills that translate to daily SOC work, according to Grant Gibson, lead instructor.
The piece also cites the ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, noting ongoing talent shortages and skills gaps amid a broader shortage in the field, and suggests that diversity in backgrounds may prove invaluable to future success. according to ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, nearly 16,000 international cybersecurity professionals indicate that their teams are not adequately staffed or trained to meet goals.
