BERLIN has reaffirmed it will not pay a ransom to the Rhysida ransomware group, which hacked its network in August, stealing over 5.7 terabytes of sensitive data, including personal information of 12,000 individuals. The breach affected multiple Senate departments and was discovered on August 14 during a period of data exfiltration from August 7 to 12.
Mayor Kai Wegner and Senator Iris Spranger confirmed the demand for a ransom of approximately 30 bitcoin, but the authorities are cooperating with ongoing investigations and refuse to negotiate with the extortionists.
