THE Rhysida ransomware group has targeted the Berlin government ahead of upcoming elections, claiming to have stolen 5.79 TB of data related to 12,076 individuals. Berlin officials have refused to pay the ransom. The data includes personal information, sensitive records, government material, and classified information, raising concerns about GDPR violations. The attack occurred just weeks before the state parliament elections on September 20, although officials assure that no election-related data was compromised.
The group has previously attacked around 280 victims since its emergence in 2023, primarily accessing systems through common vulnerabilities.
