AUSTRALIAN police have charged two men over their involvement in a global cybercrime operation known as TeamPCP, which allegedly embedded malware in open-source software to steal over 500,000 credentials from more than 1,000 organizations. Following a joint investigation with the FBI, law enforcement executed search warrants in Perth and arrested a 21-year-old and a 23-year-old, facing 14 combined charges related to unauthorized data modification and possession of stolen data.
Investigators believe the modified software infected key tools widely used in enterprise workflows, facilitating the large-scale data theft, with remediation costs estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
