SEXTORTION scammers are exploiting data leaks from the ShinyHunters hacking group to send fraudulent emails threatening victims with fabricated evidence of webcam recordings. The emails claim to have sensitive information, demanding payment in Bitcoin, with threats to release supposed recordings of victims engaging in adult activities. Reports indicate this scheme may involve over 2,000 sextortion emails linked to data from various data breaches, including those from Amtrak and others.
Experts emphasize that these scams rely on fear and lack credibility, urging recipients to refrain from responding, change passwords, and report such emails as spam.
