THE FBI has arrested another suspected co-conspirator of the ShinyHunters group, with FBI Director Kash Patel confirming the arrest on 9 October 2026. The suspect is described by outlets as a Canadian citizen who was taken into custody in Pennsylvania. The Times and CBS News cite unnamed sources regarding the person’s possible involvement in the theft of FBI data, and the FBI has not publicly named the individual or filed charges at this stage.
The arrest follows prior public disclosures that ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for breaching the FBI’s jobs portal and stealing sensitive information on FBI agents and job applicants.
The FBI’s review to date suggests the breach occurred due to a security failure on a platform managed by an external contractor. Officials told Reuters that the incident happened after a contractor failed to apply a security patch designed to secure the platform, and the FBI subsequently removed that contractor. Reuters also cited that two sources said the platform could be PeopleSoft, Oracle’s HR software, with Accenture involved in the matter.
ShinyHunters has contended the breach was in response to an May advisory about the group, while the FBI notes that several other co-conspirators remain at large. Reuters reports that Dutch police, Jordanian authorities, and the FBI have publicly tied multiple arrests to the investigation, but the FBI has not disclosed whether the latest arrest resulted from cooperation with other jurisdictions.
