DENTAQUEST , a dental benefits administrator, has notified millions of individuals that their personal and dental health information may have been compromised in a data breach discovered on May 20, 2023. Investigations revealed unauthorized access from May 17 to May 20, leading to the potential exposure of sensitive data including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and health information.
It is reported that at least 4.5 million individuals are being notified, with some estimates indicating up to 23.4 million could be affected. The infamous hacker group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the breach, leaking approximately 234 GB of data, which includes email addresses and government-issued IDs. DentaQuest is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services to those impacted.
