ON July, the popular business communications platform RingCentral suffered a data breach, allegedly involving the theft of personal information of approximately 1.6 million individuals by the extortion group ShinyHunters. The breach resulted from a social engineering campaign, which RingCentral addressed promptly by halting unauthorized activities and launching an investigation. The company emphasized that only a specific portion of its customers was affected, and services remained operational without disruption.
Following the incident, ShinyHunters claimed to have leaked 280GB of data, including names, addresses, and phone numbers, on their site. As of now, RingCentral has not verified the full extent of the breach or the attackers' claims.
